Catholic Missionaries Go to Second Life
In an article in Rome-based Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica, academic Antonio Spadaro urged fellow Catholics not to be shy about entering the virtual world, which may be fertile ground for new converts wishing to better themselves, according to Reuters.
Seasoned “church planters” have advocated the same approach for some time and some churches have already staked out digital territory, such as LifeChurch.tv. Catholics aren’t the only religious people turning to Second Life; most of the major religions are represented, along with a few new religions, according to USA Today.

Virtual worlds, such as Second Life, have gotten a lot of attention of late for users’ proclivity for bizarre sexual exploits rather than any sort of religious fervor. But that tide may be turning as big established religions follow in the footsteps of large corporations to establish a “virtual presence.”
