A documentary which had its first national audience at the end of July on MTV is the ultimate celeb enlightenment-moment: Paris Hilton has been playing us — and a character — all along.

Paris, not France reveals that the woman-famous-for-being-famous is a refreshingly grounded, self-aware, entrepreneur with a sense of irony and inner strength.

It also shines a new light on her pre-prison reading, The Power of Now and the Bible. Contrary to blog-banter at the time, perhaps Paris wasn’t posing and positioning.

    I’m sure that Paris has a soul and a brain…we all do :) But I’m not getting any type of spiritual vibe from her. She’s a well-oiled (no pun intended) money making machine for the capitalist system and for herself. Does she use her celebrity status to help others? Maybe, but I haven’t heard much about this. Why should I care about what she is doing?

    I love, admire, and am interested in a woman who can create an empire…Madonna, Paris Hilton…Sometimes it takes a whole life to know what to do with your gifts…and you and I can only imagine what it’s like to stay in a “spiritual” place when you are ALWAYS surrounded by so many people with so many agendas. Certainly Paris has to learn to find her own thoughts and feelings and soul in the midst of more “noise” than you and I are ever likely to encounter. To not curl into yourself, and instead continue to reach out and at least attempt to find out what you can do in this world seems to me something admirable in itself…Sarah
